When parents have an acrimonious relationship post separation, a court can impose- or the parties can agree- that they will retain a parenting coordinator to mediate, govern and make ongoing decisions about co-parenting. Many clients want to know how much a lawyer will cost. This depends on many factors, including the level of disagreement or animosity that exists between the parties and/or the lawyers. Other than the initial consultation and an uncontested divorce which are charged as flat fees, the cost of my services is based on an hourly rate of $275.00 per hour plus HST. I will not commence work on any file without a monetary retainer in trust and/or a payment plan. I always provide estimates for the amount of time I expect to work on a file so that you can decide ahead of time if it’s worth your while to pursue a certain course of action. When the retainer is exhausted, a new retainer will be requested.

$950.00 plus HST & disbursements
Preparing for court session: $450.00 plus HST
Reviewing financial statements: $750.00 plus HST
Drafting court pleadings: hourly rate of $250.00 plus HST
The following are estimates only based on my hourly rate of $250.00/hour and do not include HST:
Preparing an Application or Answer: $1,750.00-2,500.00
Case Conference or Settlement Conference: $1,250.00-1,750.00
Substantive Motions $4,000.00-5,500.00
For matters which do not settle after one or more interim motions, the costs of proceeding to a trial are extremely expensive. To give you an idea of approximate costs, the 2014 Canadian Lawyer Fees Survey found that the cost of a 5 day family trial ranged from $26,000.00- $59,000.00.
